I heard that there was someone called Mary who drowned her baby in the river next to Kirkstall abbey. The water is cold and turned the baby blue. This gave Mary the nickname "blue lady" she apparently jumped from the bell tower. Her ghosts is now still seen roaming the ruins, acting out the event of jumping, standing in the road late at night, which is in between the ruins and the museum. She is also seen on a platform which leads into the water. The old, ancient fireplace in the museum next to the ruins used to be in the castle, but was moved into there. On top of the fireplace is a portrait of Mary aka "Blue Lady" and the workers of the museum report it falling off of the fireplace.

The story about people being admitted to Meanwood hospital for petty matters andnever being released is true. I worked there 22 years ago, and met people who had actually gone mad through being kept in the hospital.

It was a very sad place, in my opinion, but what was worse was when it closed and all the people there who couldn't look after themselves were turfed out into society. I'm am convinced that thousands will have died throughout the country as a result of this cruel practice, Care in the Community.

Vote for Sir Jimmy Saville in the DJ Magazine DJ of the Year Competition. Sir Jim is widely credited with inventing the concept of the twin turntable in the 1940's. Although what records he was playing we have no way of knowing. Probably doing Vera Lynn megamixes and extending the break in "The Laughing Policeman". 85 ...year old Sir Jim is something of a legend back in Blighty, having warbled his way through countless editions of pop programme "Top Of The Pops" and also making a major contribution to Road Safety with his "Clunk Click Every Trip" advertisement campaign which extolled the virtues of fastening the seat belt before driving off in ones Morris Marina or Austin Allegro. Follow the link below...and Fix It for Sir Jim!!
